MORE than 500 UNISON members from Devon, including staff from Okehampton and Tavistock hospitals, joined hundreds of thousands of public sector workers on Saturday at a rally in London designed to protest against the Government's spending cuts.

The rallying cry called for an alternative fair taxation; investment in local communities; health and education; and a more equal and just society.

Steve Ryles, UNISON Devon County Branch Secretary, said Saturday's march was to give a clear signal to the Government that the public sector believed the cuts were unnecessary and unfair.

'It is simply not true to say we are all in it together, these cuts will hit the most vulnerable the hardest,' he said.
