MEMBERS of the Stroke Association's Communication Support Group in Tavistock took part in a walk to raise awareness of the illness. The walkers, who completed a distance of one mile at the Rock Aerodrome at Yelverton, included stroke survivors, carers and volunteers. Fleur Howard, who runs the Tavistock group, said the service provided practical support to people suffering from a form of communication disability called aphasia, which she said was very common after a stroke and sometimes more distressing than the physical effects. Members of the Plymouth group also took part in the walk. The Stroke Association helpline is 0845 3033 100 — 9am to 5pm on weekdays and their website is http://www.stroke.org.uk">www.stroke.org.uk
