WORLD Autism Awareness Week is nearly here! It runs from March 27 to April 2. The 'National Autistic Society, Tavistock and District Asperger Support Group' was formed last year for adults with or waiting for a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. The group will be having a display about autistic spectrum conditions and Asperger Syndrome (which is part of the autism spectrum) in Tavistock library during this awareness week, and on Thursday April 2, between 12 and 2pm, there will be a volunteer from the group to talk with or ask any questions. There is a great deal more awareness about autism today, and diagnosis and services for children have vastly improved in the last few years. The NAS Tavistock and District Asperger Support Group aims to begin to address the need for more information and services for adults in Devon by providing an information point in the form of a website http://www.nasbranch.org.uk/tavistockanddistrict">www.nasbranch.org.uk/tavistockanddistrict which will be up and running by Autism Awareness week. Tavistock Library staff have very kindly offered the group a meeting room, so that once a month members can get together over tea or coffee to share information and experience. The first support group meeting in the new venue will take place in April. For more information please email [email protected]">[email protected] or phone: 07436 544233. Jo Madgwick
