OKEHAMPTON'S efforts for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning have raised a fantastic £608.
Organiser Joyce Brockman is delighted that the support is growing with every year — since 1998 well over £1,000 has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Relief from coffee mornings in Okehampton.
'I was absolutely thrilled with the response — all my badgering seemed to pay off,' she said. 'The cake stall alone made over £100.'
Held at Fairplace Church on Friday, the sunny weather meant coffee drinkers could sit and relax on the new forecourt.
Money raised helps Macmillan Cancer Relief fund specialist nurses and doctors, buildings for cancer treatment and care, grants for patients in financial difficulties and information services — which make life easier for patients and their families and reduce unnecessary levels of fear.
The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is a national event which last year raised £3-million. Indications are that this total will be beaten after all the monies come in this year.
