It is disappointing that the poor weather last week again seriously restricted the league matches for the Tavistock Tennis Club. All three planned junior matches had to be postponed and one ladies match.
Results for week 6 as follows: Seniors: Mens A team drew 4-4 away against Ivybridge B. Simon Thomas and Bernard Mowle v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-1: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-1. John Jackson and Chris Poole v 1st pair; 3-6, 2-6: v 2nd pair; 3-6, 1-6.
B team lost 3-6 at home against Mannamead B. Phil Harbottle and Owen Locker v their 1st pair; 6-4, 4-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 6-2, 6-0. Ray Hinton and Jonathan Stephens v their 1st pair; 2-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 5-7, 3-6.
C team won 6-2 at home against Plymstock C. Alan Bruce and Tony Finnigan v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-3: v 2nd pair 6-1, 6-0. Mo Jayarajah and Rick Read v their 1st pair; 1-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 6-2, 6-0.
D team lost to 0-8 at home against Devonshire A who are a very strong team new to the league last year. David Isaac and Bill Sparks v their 1st pair; 0-6, 0-6: v 2nd pair 1-6, 1-6. It was unfortunate that the second pair individual matches had to be conceded because one Tavistock player was held up by a traffic jam.
Ladies: A team lost 2-6 at home against Russell Ave A. Tric Locker and Di Kersey v their 1st pair; 3-6, 3-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-2. Olga Rogers and Jenny Robins v their 1st pair; 2-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 3-6, 2-6.
B team match postponed. C team played well winning 8-0 away against Ivybridge E. Claudine Sparks and Sara Whyman v their 1st pair; 6-1, 6-2: v 2nd pair; 6-1, 6-0. Barabara Watson and Sue Hughes v their 1st pair; 6-1, 6-0: v 2nd pair; 6-1, 6-1.
