THERE will be a host of events on the Tamar Valley Line during the National Community Rail Festival on September 20.
John Shillito's Select Four will be playing jazz on the 11.30am from Plymouth to Gunnislake and back and there will be guided walks from both Bere Alston and Calstock stations. There will also be a free vintage bus service between Gunnislake station and Morwellham Quay.
The Tamar Belle Heritage Centre at Bere Ferrers station will be holding an open day including the chance to operate a pump trolley, as in the old films, travel in a coal truck and pull the levers in a traditional signalbox.
In Plymouth, there will be a fete at the station with a variety of attractions including a LEGO competition, balloon modelling and magic shows and the chance to sit in the driver's seat of one of First Great Western's High Speed Trains.
The South West Film & Television Archive film show to celebrate the centenary of the Bere Alston, Gunnislake and Callington railway will be shown twice in the Roland Levinsky Building, Drake Circus on the main University of Plymouth campus.
Britain's local and rural railways will be celebrated at the National Community Rail Awards in Plymouth Pavilions on September 19. The Festival is being organised by the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership, a non profit partnership of local authorities, the rail industry and others which works to promote the two counties' branch lines.
