I FIND it hard to believe that while all over the country branch lines that were closed by the Beeching cuts are now being reopened, and are being used by thousands of people.
There is so much opposition to the Bere Alston to Tavistock extension. With such beautiful scenery and fantastic views surely this would bring more visitors to the whole area, especially Tavistock itself? The town cannot survive on charity shops and cafés.
We live in Bere Alston and regularly use the train to Plymouth. It is always busy, and this includes lots of people that walk the Bere Peninsula.
Having chatted to a lot of these good folk they tell me that they would love to be able to travel on to Tavistock and wander down into the town.
