A NEW skate park in Tavistock took a step closer to becoming a reality when a recent raffle raised over £750.

The proposed skate park, to be built at Benson Meadow close to the existing ramp, has the backing of town and borough councils but needs more cash to fund the project.

The raffle, organised by Taviskate, was supported by local traders who donated items to be given away as prizes.

Taviskate member, Jane Savage, said: ?Taviskate currently boasts a membership of around 150 skaters and BMXers and new members are always welcome. We are close to our goal but need support from parents, in any capacity, to help the final push to get the skate park established.?

Local skaters, frustrated by the lack of skating facilities in the town, have been busy designing a range of T-shirts and hooded tops to be sold at the Farmers? Market on Dickensian Evening.

Sales of these will help to raise money towards the skate park, and visitors to the stall will be able to see a scale model of the proposed park.

Taviskate?s stall will be open from 5.30pm this Friday (December 6).
