TAVISTOCK nursery children made the most of some marvellous May sunshine to get outside and compete in a 'mini Olympics' recently, to raise money for their new building fund.
The children from Whitchurch Montessori, based at St Peter's Junior School, Tavistock, took part in a range of events from the traditional egg and spoon, wellie and sprint races to a tricky obstacle course and space-hopper race, cheered all the way by their families.
Each child was sponsored for the event and a tea and cake stall enjoyed brisk business throughout the morning as part of the nursery's drive to raise money to construct their own bespoke base.
For their efforts each of the young athletes was awarded a medal and certificate, having helped raise around £400 for the cause.
Nursery manager and early years teacher Karen Ninnis said: 'It was such a lovely day — the children love being outside in our garden running around so they really enjoyed the organised races.
'We would really like to thank all our parents, grandparents and carers — and our army of cake-bakers — who do so much to help make these events a success.'
