A FORMER Tavistock College student whose guitar playing has been compared with world leading players Joe Satriani and Steve Vai by a national music magazine will be holding a special clinic in the town this month. Conrad Harpham, 32, who until recently worked at Meadowlands Pool, was described by 'Cross Rhythms' as 'a musical virtuoso of the highest standards', and his latest CD 'Reflections' as an 'incredible showcase of masterful guitar playing...in the style of Satriani and Vai'. He will be holding a special guitar clinic in Tavistock Methodist Church on Saturday January 27, to include questions and answers about guitar playing, as well as music. Conrad recently received acclaim from 'Guitarist' magazine, who described his playing as 'terrific'. He came 4th in a national guitar competition in the year 2000, currently fronts his own 3-piece instrumental band and also plays for local jazz / funk outfit 'Dimitri'. He said: 'I am currently looking at opportunities within the United States, as instrumental guitar music is really popular there. The Conrad Harpham band is also soon to tour locally and are currently taking bookings into next year. It looks like 2007 should be quite exciting.' The guitar clinic starts at 7.30pm.
