They were present at the St Leonard?s Church Rooms to officially accept the Government?s ?quality status? certification from Brian Kerr, chairman of the National Association of Local Councils.
Tavistock Town Council was one of the first in the county to be recognised as a quality council, after complying with an exhaustive list of administrative and procedural requirements.
Cllr Peter Hill, mayor of West Devon and chairman of the Devon Association of Parish Councils, congratulated Tavistock and the other six town and parish councils being awarded their quality status yesterday.
Cllr Hill said the award did the councils ?great credit? and recognises the high standard of work carried out by local authorities throughout the county.
The award ceremony was attended by representatives from councils at county, district and borough levels and was followed by a buffet lunch.
