A SCHEME has been launched by Tavistock Lions to put your mind at rest about contacting relatives should you live alone and be taken ill suddenly.
With the 'Message in a Bottle' project people living on their own will no longer have to worry who will let their next of kin know or who will look after their pet in this situation.
The lions will provide small plastic containers which contain a form on which you can enter contact details of your family or close friends, any illnesses or allergies from which you may suffer, information about any pets you may have and contact information for your doctor.
Self adhesive labels will be supplied for the fridge door in which you store the container and for the front door which will be seen by the emergency services should they need to come to your home.
The scheme has been run by other Lions clubs around the country and is being enthusiastically received by the police, ambulance and fire and rescue service.
Containers can be obtained from doctors surgeries, Tavistock hospital, local pharmacies, Somerfield, the Over 60s Rest Room, the Anchorage Centre and Methodist Church Hall.
There are also plans to locate stocks in areas such as Yelverton and Bere Alston.
Co-ordinator Keith Penney said he hoped the scheme would give people peace of mind knowing that in an emergency, the services would have the relevant details and could take appropriate action to ensure the person was well looked after and that their family knew what had happened.
