THE case against war with Iraq will be heard at a meeting of Tavistock Peace Action Group next week, when the public can discuss their concerns about war.
Matt Bury, a peace campaigner from Plymouth ?Stop the War Coalition? and the ?Trident Ploughshares group? which recently held a peace camp at Devonport Dockyard, will outline the case against war with Iraq and more effective ways of dealing with the threat of weapons of mass destruction.
Martin Mowforth, coordinator of Tavistock Peace Action Group, said: ?I hope as many members of the public as possible will come to ask questions and discuss the alternatives to war and what we can do to prevent it.
?We are on the brink of involvement in yet another war which will cost dearly ? not only in millions of pounds on weapons which could be spent on public services but will cost the lives of many innocent civilians in Iraq who have already suffered under sanctions.
?There are alternatives to using war to deal with international conflict. A stronger more democratic United Nations and the upholding of international law would be a start.?
There will be ample time for questions, discussion and debate at this informal public meeting next Wednesday, (December 4) at 7.30pm at the Friends Meeting House, Bedford Car Park, Tavistock.
Tavistock Peace Action Group is a group of local people who are concerned about issues of justice and peace, and the unnecessary use of force and violence to resolve international disputes. The group also campaigns against nuclear weapons and the arms trade.
