ASPIRING West Devon writers are being invited to submit their short stories in a competition run by the West Country Writers' Association.

The competition is open to any author or aspiring author who has no more than two short stories professionally published, or read on mainstream radio.

The entries can be on any subject or theme but must mention Dartmoor at least once.

Winner of the competition will receive £50 in cash and be invited to spend 24 hours at the association's next annual congress, being held in Plymouth, in April next year.

The entry fee is £5 per story and stories must not exceed 1,200 words.

The closing date for submissions is December 15.

The West Country Writers' Association is also inviting writers and poets to apply for their annual bursary.
