THE 55-piece orchestra from Okehampton Primary School has been chosen to take centre stage at the Devon County Show tomorrow (Friday.)
The children were selected to perform in the Devon County Council marquee following an impressive performance at the Devon Schools' Prom in March.
They are one of 15 music groups from primary and secondary schools throughout the county playing at the three-day show and will be on stage at 12.10pm and 3.15pm on the second day.
Teacher Ann Holland, who is in charge of instrumental music at the school, said the children were very excited and it was a great honour.
'One of the groups playing is the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra who are the cream of the county so we are quite lucky to be taking part,' she said.
The children will be playing two pieces which have been arranged by Mrs Holland's husband John, the former head of music at Okehampton College, who also writes music for the orchestra.
At the Devon School's Prom Mrs Holland was told the primary school was quite unique in having its own orchestra.
Recorders, flutes, cornets, violins, cellos, the double bass and drums all feature in the line-up.
The orchestra is performing at the annual music evening at the primary school on Tuesday May 23 at 7pm to which everybody is welcome.
