A SKATE ramp at St Ann's Chapel has been transformed into a work of art by local schoolchildren after it suffered at the hands of vandals.

Children from St Ann's Chapel, Delaware Primary School and Callington Community College spent three days painting the ramp with help from Tessa Sulsten, who runs residential art courses in Callington.

Local companies also donated materials for the job, including Travis Perkins at Callington, who supplied paint and overalls, and GB Tool Hire, who provided the scaffolding to paint the top of the ramp which depicts Calstock Viaduct.

PCSO Jo Addems, who instigated the project, said everyone had been so generous that only a small part of the grant the police had for doing the work had been needed.

'It was amazing to see all the children working so hard on it and the parents were coming down and supplying us with food and ice lollies,' she said. 'Ginsters also helped by supplying pasties on the Friday and Saturday.'

The skate ramp had been a target for vandals and had become really run down. PCSO Addems said she hoped because of the effort that had been put into it, the youngsters would keep it looking nice and take some sort of ownership of it.
