PUPILS from Tavistock's St Rumon's School did the honours to open the new-look Co-operative store in Brook Street last Thursday.
The opening followed a £210,000 refit and the Co-operative Group's acquisition of the Somerfield supermarket chain in 2009.
The store is being completely transformed with contemporary décor, a new kiosk, a refurbished and relocated bakery, and a more spacious layout around the checkout area. Additional chillers are being introduced for beers and wines, and other fixtures and fittings are being updated.
Barbara Worth, acting manager of the store, said: 'Upgrading the store will freshen up the shopping experience and improve the vitality of Tavistock, so I look forward to welcoming customers into the new-look Co-operative store.'
The store relaunch saw winners of an art competition from St Rumon's School cut a ribbon to celebrate the re-opening of the store. They are pictured with acting manager Barbara Worth.
