THE winner of a peace poster competition designed for West Devon primary schools has been announced. Tavistock Lions Club organised the inter primary school poster competition to give pupils the opportunity to express making friends and teamwork. Eighteen schools throughout the West Devon area covered by the club, were invited to take part and design their own poster. Three schools ultimately took part and the winners and runners-up were: Horrabridge Community Primary School, Georgina Mullery and Jonathan Cole; Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School, Samantha Heelis and Melissa Edwards; Tavistock Community Primary School, Demi Conley and Harriet Edwards. The three winning entries were then judged by Carolyn Godfrey, the skills and curriculum manager for Devon Adult and Community Learning, who along with Lion president Jeff Lea, presented the children with certificates and vouchers. The overall winning entry was by Samantha Heelis of Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School. She was presented with the Inter Schools Peace Poster Shield. Samantha?s poster was on display in Tavistock Library until last Saturday. The Lions club will be organising the competition again next year, when it hopes more primary schools will take part.
