Children at Lifton School rounded off the term in top Olympic spirit with their musical, 'Go for Gold'.

The performance, set in both modern and ancient times, told the story of a modern-day athlete who turns to the history and founding ideals of the ancient games to inspire her to do her best.

The school put on two evening performances of the play with an afternoon matinee, which saw around 250 people from the community and family members attend.

Headteacher Mrs Kui Holmes said: 'With the Olympics coming up we thought the theme was appropriate, and it also gave the children the opportunity to learn about Ancient Greece and the origins of the Games, and their relevance today.

'The show was fantastic, and everyone I have spoken to who came to see it has spoken very highly of the standard of the show.'
