CHILDREN at Milton Abbot School were last week treated to a visit by the ShelterBox charity, after they raised more than £1,000 for the organisation in just one day last month.

The money was collected through a mufti day, plus a cake stall and bring and buy sale.

David Glover of ShelterBox brought one of the big green disaster emergency boxes to the school, so the children could see at first-hand what their fundraising money would be put towards.

Sue Mulliner, school administrator, said: 'We were aiming to be able to raise enough to buy one ShelterBox, which costs £490, which we thought was ambitious enough, but we raised £1,001.06, which was fantastic —we were thrilled to bits.

'I think the disaster in Haiti was something that touched everyone's hearts.'

Sue said the children were delighted to be able to see the ShelterBox, which includes a ten-man tent, tools, medical supplies, water purification tablets and an activity kit for children.

She said: 'I think they were fascinated with the presentation he gave, and the film about ShelterBoxes.

'They asked some very sensible questions — I think they were thrilled with the visit.'
