Tavistock Pumas 4

Hydrock 0

PUMAS played a good strong game against Hydrock in their first game of the summer season. With the team being fairly young it was pleasing to see such a strength in skill level and fitness levels.

The game opened with Tavistock distributing the ball well over the pitch and Sarah Barratt, Laura Armstrong and Emma White all worked well together in order to drive the ball up the pitch to Oliver MacManus and Nikki Woodroffe.

The forwards were goal hungry and Woodroffe gave some early calls allowing the ball to be fed into the 'D' and struck at goal. The first goal was scored by Adam Holland.

The midfield play of Josh Cowen-Darcy, Oliver Richards and Sarah Barratt was strong in their distribution and defending.

Phil Edwards and Shane Lovett hassled players frequently winning tackles and feeding out to White or Adam Holland. The odd time the opposition did appear to have a break, keeper Paul Mingo gave early calls resulting in the free players being marked up.

Phil Edwards scored the second goal and the third came from an excellent ball from Robynne Honey, Holland neatly put it away.

The team were really impressed with how they were playing and at half-time morale was high.

The second half saw Tavistock dominate with Laura Stapleton and Barratt pushing up more through midfield allowing the rest of the team to penetrate the 'D'.

Armstrong continued to work hard and the exceptional play of the youngsters, especially Oliver MacManus, Sarah Barratt and Robynne Honey, could not be faulted. Cowen-Darcy was goal hungry and it was not long before he scored again taking the score to 4-0.

Mingo continued to be solid in goal and prevented the opposition from scoring when they did enter the 'D'.

The next match is on Tuesday May 12 at Manadon, push back 7pm.
