Tavistock Pumas 2 Wants 4 TAVISTOCK Pumas hockey team desperately wanted revenge after an earlier disappointing defeat to this team. Both teams went immediately on the attack with Tavistock having the edge over their opponents. Laura Stapleton, Chris Wilson and Nick Boot-Hanford worked well through midfield and distributed the ball to Robynne Honey and Jo Gaspar on the wings. But creating width on the pitch did not last long as the ball on too many occasions was sent through the middle, resulting in a weaker attack on the defence of Wants. Dom Lovett played well up front and outran many of the defenders. The odd time that the opposition did regain possession, Fiona Dunn made some good tackles and Wilson and Stapleton got back to help defend. A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and a strong ball out from Tom Honey allowed Stapleton to put a strong strike neatly past the keeper. This lifted the teams? spirits but Wants were quick to retaliate and scored their first goal as Tavistock were outnumbered in the D. Tavistock were not using the full strength of the team and whenever the ball was won by a good tackle it was sent straight back to the opposition. This carelessness and some players not being strong enough when passing the ball resulted in Wants scoring again just before half-time. The second-half saw Tavistock with only ten players. Kevin Lethbridge passed the ball to Lisa Butler who unfortunately could not get past one of the female players from the opposition. With Boot-Hanford, Wilson and Stapleton still making 100% effort and Honey and Lovett continuing to try to penetrate the opposition?s D, the determination of these players could not be faulted. Gaspar switched sides and was free numerous times in the D but was not used to her potential. Wants scored the next two goals but Pumas scored from Lovett near the end.
