I'VE tried and failed so far to get a satisfactory response to my various queries on the so called enhancements of the town.

The mayor's comments reported on the front page of the Okehampton Times about the Ray Smith exhibition were therefore welcome.

Can we please find out by means of a public meeting if the townspeople feel that they have been consulted about the best use for the considerable sum of money available from the Waitrose development?

To date we've been offered only one set of ideas (Ray Smith) and no price tag on these, which made a nonsense of the consultation. Ironically,the artist was asked to give the town 'an identity' yet in my view his proposals only take away the town's character.

The public has not been asked to submit our own ideas and priorities for the town enhancement. Various groups, Okehampton Teens to Twenties and Okehampton Community Recreation Association and so on, may like the opportunity to also present ideas for consultation and public discussion.
