A CONSULTATION is being held in Spreyton village hall today (Thursday) to gather public comments about a proposed housing development. Midas Homes is planning to build a development of 24 houses on land at Meadow Rise, to the north of the village centre. This will include 35% affordable housing, which has long been recognised as something needed in the village. However, Spreyton residents fear that the density of the proposed development will be out of character with the area. Parish clerk Clive Wooton said that the site was earmarked for future housing in the local plans some years ago. At that time, though, the site had been intended to provide only 12 new houses. Since then, government guidelines have been changed so that such developments now have to be built at a density of 30 houses per hectare. 'A lot of people in the village aren't very happy about it, but we don't know if there's anything we can do about it,' Mr Wooton said. 'We're hoping there might be some flexibility though.' The consultation is being held from 2.30pm until 8pm, and will provide a chance for the public to learn about exactly what Midas Homes is proposing for the site, and register their views and opinions on the issue.
