A WEST Devon pub has been acclaimed for the quality of its food by a prestigious new guide published last Monday. Egon Ronay?s 2006 guide to the ?Best Restaurants and Gastropubs in the UK? recommends The Peter Tavy Inn. Inspectors of Egon Ronay?s 2006 guide anonymously tested more than 400 pubs and more than 100 earned a star rating for their cooking. ?Where have all these excellent chefs been hiding?? said Mr Ronay. ?Many work wonders in cramped kitchens, competing with the cooking even in some of our best restaurants.? The guide says The Peter Tavy Inn is rightly known for its robustly flavoured food. Steak and stilton pie, duck breast, stir fry vegetables and oyster sauce as well as fresh crevettes with a delicate lemon mayonnaise, were some of the dishes that won praise at the pub. Mr Ronay said: ?The food at the Peter Tavy Inn richly deserves its place in the guide. Our inspection concentrated on the quality of the food which inspectors found impressive.?
