A CONSULTATION and voting day on Bere Alston Regeneration Partnership's project for the parish hall in the village was well attended, with most comments appearing favourable.
The event was held by the parish council to give details of the plan and ask for parishioners to vote as to whether the council should contribute £20,000 to the project — it would mean an additional £3.60 a year for Band D council tax payers in addition to any future increases.
Letters have also been sent to every household to allow those who could not attend the event to vote.
Members of the regeneration partnership and the council were available to discuss the plans, which would see a restructuring and extension to the hall. The first floor would have an IT suite, council chamber, clerk's office, local history group archive storage and additional storage.
The existing hall and stage would be retained, and an extension provided to include a playgroup suite with activity area, toilets and kitchen, disability lift, landing, foyer, stores and a boiler room, plus an office for the project manager.
The contribution from the parish council would only be raised if the full funding package — for which negotiations are in progress — is granted, and would secure £408,000 of additional funding towards the capital cost of £465,000. The council will only proceed if there is a majority vote in favour by parish householders.
