CALLINGTON College students kicked off the Friday Night Project at the town hall on Friday with an evening of performance by local bands Late November and Six is Out, and street dancers Karma.

The events are designed for 12 to 17 year olds to develop their performing and creative skills, and to give them an outlet for their talent and energy.

Project co-ordinator Kate Bourn said: 'The first event has been a great success; we're very much looking forward to seeing the project grow over the next few months.'

Regular events, and a youth café are planned, leading to a self-sustaining process.

The events are the culmination of joint working between Callington Town Council, the Community College, and local police — made possible by Lottery funding.

The next event takes place on December 10 and will feature an X-Factor style contest.?Anyone interested in entering should contact Kate at the community college. Tickets, at £2 each, can be bought in advance from the Callington Youth Centre or Community College Sports Centre.
