AN innovative project looking into the treatment of asthma gets under way in Tavistock next week, which could improve management of the condition in sufferers in the area.
Spearheading the six-month project is Cllr Caroline Keane, of Tavistock, who has already helped set up a similar scheme in Plymouth.
She said the project will involve volunteer asthma sufferers trying different complementary therapies over a trial period.
Cllr Keane said: 'We are hoping it's going to help people minimise the use of medication, for children in particular.
'The idea is to spend six months doing it, to enable the benefits of the therapies to be assessed. They will be working alongside orthodox medicines, in partnership.'
Cllr Keane said she was very encouraged by response to the proposed project.
'My phone was red-hot for two days,' she said.
Therapies included in the project are shiatsu, reflexology, homoeopathy, reiki, aromatherapy massage, buteyko and acupuncture.
Anyone interested in taking part in the project is invited to attend a meeting at The Anchorage Centre, by the bus station in Tavistock's Plymouth Road on October 16 at 7.30pm.
