PRISONERS were offered suncream by prison officers after they managed to climb onto the roof of Dartmoor Jail — but they declined! The Ministry of Defence said offering the UV protection was part of their duty of care but John Hancock from the Prison Officers' Association said: 'They (prisoners) shouldn't have been up there in the first place. 'It's only going to encourage other inmates to get on the roofs and expect sun cream — and possibly cold drinks as well.' The incident was successfully resolved by negotiation after prisoners scaled the five storey structure. Prisons Minister Jeremy Wright said that he had ordered a review into the matter. 'This should not have happened,' said Mr Wright. 'There should be no policies in place which promote this kind of foolishness.
