DARTMOOR Prison Museum has reopened after four weeks — but visitors are advised to ring before they set out.
Curator Brett Johnson said every precaution possible was being taken at the Princetown museum, open 9.30am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday.
'We are monitoring the situation on a day to day basis. We must also stress that we are taking every precaution possible — the disinfecting of vehicles, using mats and disinfectant sprayers to prevent any spreading of the disease.'
He said there had been lost of calls asking if the museum was open.
'I think in a way we are supporting the local businesses. We fully appreciate the concerns of the farming community. We have a 1,600 acre farm of our own — and the prison has major precautions in place all over the area.'
Mr Johnson stressed the museum car park was enclosed with no access to farmland.
He urged visitors to ring the museum first on (01822) 890305 and also to abide by all notices and instructions en route.
