THE PRINCE of Wales has spoken personally to all his tenant farmers on Dartmoor who have been affected by the foot and mouth outbreak.
A spokesperson for the Prince said: 'He feels deeply for all farmers at this difficult time, but he is very concerned about his tenants who have been affected by the outbreak.
'He has spoken to his tenants on Dartmoor who have been affected and offered them his thoughts. He is very concerned.'
The spokesperson said there had been a huge response to the donation last week by the Prince of half a million pounds to help farmers, £100,000 especially earmarked for farmers in the South West. She said: 'Our phone lines were very busy, with many people wanting to join the Prince in trying to help the farmers.'
The Duchy recently sent out its six-monthly rent demands to farmers, but in view of the foot and mouth outbreak it has sent a letter to tenants saying it recognises it is a worrying time, and anyone who has difficulties in paying should contact the Duchy office.
