A BRAND new computer suite with 17 computers and Internet access was unveiled at a West Devon primary school last week.

Bere Alston School was highly praised in its last Ofsted report, with pupils' results in English and maths placing the school in the top five percent of the country.

Staff at the school hope the new computer suite will build even further on this success.

Headteacher Kim Wild said: 'This has been made possible thanks to a significant amount of financial help from the Maynard Trust, Friends of School and money from NGfL.

'It has enabled the school to achieve very quickly one of the areas in our action plan, which is to provide a full curriculum for information and communication technology.'

She said the Maynard Trust, a charity linked to the school, funded the installation of benches and the majority of the computers.

Friends of the School also raised money to buy software and other IT equipment.

'Pupils and staff are quickly becoming proficient with the new computers under the supervision of IT co-ordinator Mike Macgougan.

'Special thanks also go to the Governors who have overseen the choice and purchase of the computers,' she added.
