Okehampton ladies seconds 2

Callington ladies 0

IN this friendly on Sunday both teams were fighting to gain possession in the first half.

Callington were dangerous on the break with their forwards forcing Oke defender Katy Adams to tackle strongly and stopping Callington getting any goal scoring chances.

The Okehampton team worked hard, passing the ball around the pitch and building their attack.  Towards the end of the half Oke were awarded a number of penalty corners but could not convert them into goals.

Early in the second half Callington penetrated the Oke defence and only a crucial save from Keeper Shannon Osman kept the score line equal.

Oke upped their game with Maria Jones and Hannah Whiteley on the right attack forcing Callington to defend deeply.  Oke's first goal came from a cross into the circle by Maria Jones which found Annette Goswell perfectly placed in front of the goal to put the ball past the Callington keeper.

Callington were soon on the attack again and were denied an equaliser when joint player of the match Katy Adams cleared the ball in front of goal.

Oke surged forward hungry for more goals.  A well practiced penalty corner routine between vice-captain Katy Graves and captain Sophie Whiteley resulted in a slick goal by Graves.

The home team nearly increased their lead further when Sophie Tripp had a solo attacking run using her skill and pace to outwit the Callington defenders — she was brought to an abrupt halt at the top of the circle when a defender kicked the ball —however, Oke did not convert the resulting penalty corner.

Joint player of the match was awarded to Nicola Stoneman and Katy Adams.
