ON winning the toss Plympton had no hesitation in asking Whitchurch to bat, and made good use of the new ball. Tight bowling and excellent fielding kept the pressure on Whitchurch all the time with only Alex Hudson (36) and James Aggiss (27) making reasonable headway. Pick of the bowlers were Craig Miles (2-12) and Andy Smith (1-17), ably supported by keeper Daniel Harris and Phillip Wass taking three catches apiece. Whitchurch eventually made 125 for 8 in their 25 overs.

Plympton never looked in any trouble despite losing Andy Smith in the first over and reached a winning total with the best part of 5 overs remaining and 5 wickets intact. Danny Harris (34), Ben Warren (57) and Phillip Wass (38no) were the main contributors.

Phillip Wass (Plympton) and Richard Hall (Whitchurch) were fielders of the match.

WHITCHURCH suffered a rare defeat at the hands of a rampant Ivybridge team, inspired by the bowling of Karkeek.

He clean bowled Whitchurch's three top batsmen in his first two overs, ending up with 4 wickets for 6 runs.

Whitchurch tried to repair the damage through aggressive batting, but steady bowling backed up by sensational fielding dismissed Whitchurch for a meagre 46.

The three run-outs were all effected by direct hits.

When Ivybridge batted the Whitchurch bowling lacked discipline as they strove for wickets, conceding 19 extras. Ivybridge batted positively with Deal (14) top scoring before being superbly caught by Daymond.

Hulbert was easily the pick of the bowlers.

Man of the match: Karkeek for his devastating opening bowling.

THINGS started badly for Whitchurch when Kit Reeve pulled a muscle in his leg while warming up and was unable to take any active part in the game.Whitchurch won the toss and decided to field first. The bowlers took wickets regularly and for once all catches were held. Only Dave Pike (36) made a substantial contribution to the Buckland total of 112 - 9 in 40 overs. Wickets were shared evenly between Graham Horler (2-14), Andy Alford (2-26), Paul Crocker (2-18) and Nick Sweet (2 - 30).

The Whitchurch innings started badly with Roger Whittingham and Tim Watson both being dismissed without scoring. Ewen Rae (18), Josh Sutton (25) and Bill Tynan (13) looked for a while to be taking Whitchurch towards victory. However scoring was always difficult and then came the familiar collapse to a total of 98 all out in the final over. Nearly a carbon copy of last year's match which Whitchurch also lost narrowly chasing a low total.
