THE wonderful weather has encouraged members of Tavistock Golf Club to take full advantage of the sunshine and of a course that is in superb condition. 

One hundred and nine men played in the George Kitley Salver and excellent scores were made.  In division one junior Sam Jessop had 39points with Mark Taylor second with 38pts and third was Rob Sleep on 37pts.  Dennis Greening topped division two with 40pts, second Paul Congo on 39pts and third with 38pts was John Lyddon on countback from Mike Burbidge.  

There was close scoring in division three — first  Roger Ward with 40pts on countback from Tom Rawlinson with Will Inman third on 39pts on countback from Sean Cleave.  The winner of the salver was club president Dennis Greening on countback with 40 pts.

New club professional Glenn Richards organised a spring Stableford and, in perfect golfing weather, 73 members took part. 

First in the men's section with 43pts was Geoff Shepherd, Steve Dickinson was second with 40pts on countback from Will Notley closely followed by Andy Rich with 39pts on countback from Dave Treble, Tom Read, Mike Wakeley and Howard Jenkins.   Scoring was equally close among the ladies but junior Emmy Hoyte had an excellent 39 pts to win the ladies section.  Marion Stenhouse was second with 38pts on countback from Pat Hoar, Sue Coles had 37pts on countback from Sally Hills.     

The ladies EWGA Medal was played in conjunction with the Marilyn Allen Trophy for past lady captains.  Scoring was close but first was Valerie Jarman with a nett 73 on countback from Lyn Swift, Kate Harding and Jane Wright.  All with nett 74  were Joy Harrison, Sue Coles and Dawn Phillott but the winner of the Marilyn Allen Trophy was captain Maggie Hillman with nett 75.  

The weather was still perfect for golf when the ladies played in the Bader Salver.  Winners were Pat Hoar and Jennie Roe with 40pts and runners up Elaine Cooper and Dawn Phillott had 39pts.  Pat and Jennie will play in the regional final at Okehampton.  The grand final will be at Abbotsley Golf Club, St Neots, Cambridge.

n The junior team had an excellent win in their first match in the Devon Junior League.  They beat Staddon Heights 3 and a half to 1 and a half  resulting with 5 and a half points in the league.  In the Easter Stableford  Will Stenhouse was first in division one with 40 pts, second Sam Jessop 32pts on countback from Bridie Sampson.  Playing his first 18 hole competition was Arun Caines winning the second division with 33 pts, second Emma Greening 29pts and third Matt Green with 25pts. 

The adult junior foursomes is always a popular competition and this year was no exception.  Eleven teams took part — a mixture of men, ladies, boys and girls whose handicaps ranged from +2 to go to some juniors with a 42 handicap.  In third place on countback with 34pts was father and daughter Alan and Emma Greening, second was Alan Gawman and Bridie Sampson with 36pts but first and winners of the Greening-Mackenzie Trophy were father and son Chris and Mike Henderson with 44 pts.  The first and second place pairs have qualified to play in the Devon Finals at Sidmouth Golf Club in September.
