A GRANT for £4,900 is a welcome belated birthday present for Tavistock Community Pre-School. The money is from the Awards for All scheme run by the Big Lottery Fund which makes small grants of between £500 and £5,000 to ?grass roots? community groups and voluntary organisations. Carole Bradford, treasurer of Tavistock Community Pre-School, said everyone was delighted with the cash award. ?It will help subsidise the sessions and, as they become busier, they will look after themselves. We also hope to introduce a toy library,? she said. The group, which is based in the Alexander Centre, recently celebrated its 30th birthday. It caters for all levels of intelligence and physical abilities. ?We now have the funding so we can do proper training for staff. Rather than be just a pre-school we want to include the whole family,? said Carole. The pre-school also intends to look into alternative child care ideas. ?We are trying to look after the mothers? social needs and expand our service so that we are more family orientated not just geared to the children.? Tavistock Community Pre-School is one of the oldest established in the area. The group is keen to fill in gaps about its history. If you remember going to Tavistock Community Pre-School, the group would like to hear from you. Awards for All also gave a £5,000 grant to the West Devon Citizens? Advice Bureau which will be used towards the appointment of a training officer. Specialist training will be provided to the community, staff and volunteers on money management and debt prevention.
