A TAVISTOCK school is celebrating high praise after an inspection by the Independent Schools? Inspectorate. The ISI announced its findings after a recent visit to Mount House School ? a co-educational school which accepts boarders and day pupils. In summary, the inspectors stated: ?Mount House is an effective school. It is led well by the headteacher who is working to establish a strong ethos, where pupils and teachers work and play hard to achieve very high standards. ?The pupils are taught well and they make good progress in most subjects.? The report said considerable time was dedicated to sports and physical activities ? the very good behaviour and positive relationships in the school reflected the pupils? very good attitude to school and to learning. The report did highlight some areas which required attention ? such as shortcomings in the registration procedure and the need to develop a more goal-orientated system for monitoring pupils? work. Headmaster Jim Massey said: ?The lead up to a full inspection is an opportunity to look carefully and critically at all aspects of the school. ?It is a bracing and invigorating experience and we are thrilled that the team of inspectors were so complimentary about key areas.? Mr Massey said the aim of Mount House was to instil a sense of excitement in children as they learned, while fostering confidence, fitness and generosity of spirit. ?The inspection has given us a great boost and it is an impartial vote of confidence we are on the right track.?
