Francis Clark Second XI C
Tavistock v Sidmouth
TAVISTOCK went into the game knowing that they could not afford defeat.
John Rich lost the toss on a very damp wicket and Tavistock were asked to bat. Steve Johns and Paul Strawbridge started very well and put on 43 for the first wicket but Johns was unfortunately run out and then the wheels came off.
A combination of poor choice of shot, good bowling and some unlucky decisions saw Tavistock bowled out for a lowly 91. Only Brett Thomas (10) and captain Rich (13) got into double figures.
When Sidmouth batted runs were equally difficult to come by and Tavistock?s bowlers put enormous pressure on. James Brown bowled a superb spell. Dave Jeffrey 17-10-1-2 was exceptional giving only 14 runs away from his 17 overs.
A stunning catch from veteran Stuart Munday typified the effort Tavistock put in. Paul Strawbridge also took a very good catch off Ben Neale.
Sidmouth reached the target required in the 48th over. The result has denied Tavistock promotion but captain John Rich has nothing but praise for the way the team battled.
