MORE than £2,300 was poured into Tavistock Rotary Club's collection tins as the Santamobile brought Father Christmas to homes in the town during the club's street collections in December.

Clive Fairchild, rotarian in charge of fundraising, expressed thanks to the people of Tavistock for their generosity.

He said: 'These are not the best of times to be asking for money but it's heart warming to see how strong the Christmas spirit still is in the town.

'As usual we will do our best to support local causes — some has been donated towards the dinner for those alone on Christmas Day, which was held at the Methodist Church, and our annual dinner for senior citizens is in the planning stages.'

The money raised on Dickensian Evening, December 5, will be sent to ShelterBox to help survivors of international disasters.
