A LOCAL mother has praised Whitchurch Primary School for going ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ to accommodate her son who has Down’s syndrome.
Sarah Hoskin’s four-year-old son Riley started at Whitchurch Primary School in September and she has been impressed by the schools efforts to make sure he is comfortable.
She said: ‘The school has been amazing, even the speech and language therapists have said they haven’t come across a school that has been quite so accommodating and keen to help.
‘Riley gets tired really quickly so the teachers have said that he could do half days or that they will phone me so that I can come and pick him up.’
Sarah said it was difficult deciding whether to put him in mainstream school or a special needs facility.
She added: ‘It took quite a while to decide what was best but we definitely made the right decision. All of the pupils love him, even the older years.
‘They all knew what to expect because they were shown a video about Down’s syndrome before he started. It’s good to know that he is happy there so now the learning doesn’t bother me.
‘They have done an amazing job in accepting him and helping him to settle in – they really have gone above and beyond the call of duty.’
