Tiverton Seconds 3

Tavistock 2

FIRST on was John Betts for Tavistock Squash Club, playing his first game at No 1 against an ailing Greg for Tiverton. John's powerful forehand drives and clever cross court shots caused all sorts of problems for Tiverton with John taking the lead 9-4 in the first game.

In the second game John changed tactics and tried to play some drop shots to the front, his opponent read the shots very well and eventually levelled the match at 1 game all. After having pointed out the error of his ways, John went back to the drive and cross game and back outright winner 3 games to 1.

Next up was Pete Robertson for Tavistock against Mike. After a very tentative start by both players Mike took the first game for Tiverton 9-4. A number of mistakes crept into Pete's game which gave Peter a great deal of frustration. Tiverton won the game 3-0.

Peter Walshe for Tavistock against Martin of Tiverton. After a very close first game, which Peter took 9-7, they both settled into a competitive match with some lengthy rallies.

Martin came back in the second game and took it 9-2 with Peter making some unforced errors. Peter pulled himself back into the lead in the third game 10-8 but not to be outdone Martin came back in the forth to level the match two games all. The final game saw the demise of Peter with fatigue on which Martin capitalised and took 9-3 and therefore the match.

Next up was the Tavistock No3 Stuart Cox against Peter of Tiverton. Peter was a very experienced player and had a very strong forehand, with which he punished Stuart in the first 2 games 9-3, 9-3 to go 2-0 up. Stuart's determination to at least take a game off his opponent paid dividends in the third game with which he took 9-4 with some determined running. Unfortunately for Stuart, Pete up his game in the fourth game and took the match 3-1.

Finally Tavistock's No2 and all too absent captain, Tim Wallis took the stage. He disposed of his opponent Mark in his casual style 3 games to 0. Tiverton won the match 3-2.
