Liskeard Ladies 4
Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 2
THIS game of hockey opened with both teams making strong attacking play through the midfield.
Laura Stapleton worked hard in distributing the ball and marking up a key player from the opposition. It was fed up by Fiona Dunn and Emma White took it into the D but the rebound was not backed up by other members of the forward line.
Gill Court and Babs Horton battled well on the left as that was the side attacks came from. Laura Armstrong intercepted the ball and played a cracking shot out on the wing to Lisa Butler who drove it hard into the D to get a strong strike past the keeper.
At 1-0, Tavistock knew they were going to have score again to make the match more secure. Rebecca Wallace picked up a key player through the middle but Tavistock were on the defence as the ball was crossed over from the left through the middle and into the goal.
Half -time saw the score at 1-1 and Tavistock knew they were going to have to work hard to be the dominant team as Liskeard had excellent passing skills.
The opening of the second half was much better for Tavistock and Butler and Steph Mills pushed the ball up the pitch.
Dunn took the ball all the way up the pitch and fed it into the D. The ball hit a defender?s feet, resulting in a short corner being awarded to Tavistock.
Stapleton took the strike which was rebounded but the keen eye of White slipped it past the keeper. The ball was fed down the left and no-one made a tackle until it was brought into the D where it was left for Dunn to fend off four players. It was crossed and there was nothing goalkeeper Soozi Baggs could do.
Tavistock seemed to lose their spark. A penalty flick was awarded against them and this took the score to 3-2.
Tavistock?s Zoe Viggers started to dominate her player but it was too late and Liskeard scored again due to players not being marked up. The final score was 4-2 to Liskeard.
This was a disappointing match for Tavistock as they had the potential to win or draw.
Player of match: Laura Stapleton.
This week Tavistock are home at Bickleigh Barracks at 12.30pm in their penultimate match against Plymouth and Marjons 2nd XI.
