POLICE throughout West Devon are working with vulnerable residents to help reassure them during the Hallowe?en festivities. The campaign encourages members of the public who do not wish to be called upon, to place the ?Sorry, No Trick, No Treat, No Thanks? poster in the doors or windows of their homes. The poster aims to remind the ?Trick or Treaters? that not all residents want to be disturbed during the evening. West Devon and South Hams crime reduction sergeant Neil McMurray said: ?Large groups of people crowding around the front door or in the street can cause alarm to some vulnerable members of the community. ?We are not trying to spoil the fun of Hallowe?en, but would like ?trick or treaters? to recognise that there are vulnerable members of our community that could be distressed by trick or treating. ?We suggest that if you don?t know the people living in a property then to approach with consideration during the evening.? The posters have been developed by the police and are asking that if ?Trick or Treaters? see the poster to respect the people in the house and not call at the property. Posters are available through the neighbourhood officers. A campaign showing retail establishments who will selectively sell eggs and flour during the run up to Hallowe?en is also in place.
