CALLINGTON'S new Tesco superstore opened its doors for business on Monday with town portreeve Karen Gold performing the opening ceremony.
Tesco Callington celebrated its launch with donations to two local charities, children's charity Ellie's Haven and St Luke's Hospice, who each received £500.
The 30,000 sq ft store in Tavistock Road has been welcomed by the community particularly as it also boasts a petrol station, the only one in the town.
As part of its planning permission Tesco has agreed to fund highways improvements in the town, including a one-way system, on-street parking places and a pedestrian crossing near the police station.
Pictured with the portreeve are her partner Robin Gold, town crier Dennis Cook, store manager Gary Wills, deputy manager Angie Parry, customer champion Alan Woollcombe and Steph Cherington from St Luke's Hospice.
