IT was sink or swim for a Bere Alston man last week when he swam more than one mile in Meadowlands Swimming Pool for Children in Need. Matthew Dillon, 26, who swims regularly at Meadowlands, was so inspired by the number of people who raised money last year for Children In Need it encouraged him to take part. After watching comedian David Walliams swim the channel in August, he decided to attempt a swimming challenge. On January 10 Matthew swam the 96 lengths, with cheering from his friends and family, in two hours and 20 minutes. He raised a total of £360. Helen McFarlane, support worker for Fulfilling Lives, said: 'It's his biggest challenge and he worked so hard with training and in collecting such a big sponsorship. It was a big challenge and he did so well.' Matthew expressed thanks to all his friends and family from Bere Alston and Tavistock who sponsored him and to the staff at Meadowlands for their support.
