CHAGFORD residents are attempting an English Channel swim next week — without even dipping a toe into the briny!
The volunteers will be leaving 'Calais' at 7am on Saturday August 31 and swimming lengths of Chagford Swimming Pool until they reach 'Dover' — some 1,500 lengths later.
The swim is likely to take until 7pm and the day promises to be full of fun, with coffee and croissants on offer between 7am and 11am, a lunchtime barbecue and tea and cakes in the afternoon.
Music and entertainment will provided throughout the day and visitors are encouraged to join the theme and dress up in traditional French or British style, celebrating the swimming pool's first full season for three years.
Swimmers can specify the time they wish to swim and can be sponsored per length or a fixed amount.
All proceeds will go to Chagford Swimming Pool. Registration forms can be obtained from Youds Newsagents or the Courtyard Cafe and non-swimmers need not feel they cannot help make the event go swimmingly — helpers will also be required to count lengths or assist with refreshments and stalls.
Anyone who would like to get involved with the fun should contact Chris Mount on 01647 432267.
