POLITICAL parties are to the fore in the line up of those contesting seats in the Devon County Council elections.

One of the largest field of candidates is in Tavistock, where six are contesting the seat. Roy Connelly, who was elected to the seat last time as a Liberal Democrat, is standing as an Independent this time. His former party has selected borough councillor Alison Clish-Green to contest the seat. The Conservative candidate is town and borough councillor Debo Sellis.

Another town and borough councillor, Ted Sherrell, is fighting the seat as an Independent, and UKIP, which is contesting all seats in the West Devon area, has put forward George Mudge. Labour's standard bearer is Michael Sparling.

It is a four-party fight in Okehampton Rural with sitting member Conservative Christine Marsh up against Liberal Democrat John Young, Labour's Rachel Lyons and UKIP's Roger Welsh.

A similar four-party fight takes place in Yelverton Rural while Hatherleigh and Chagford sees a three-party fight, but without Labour.
