POLICE are warning of the dangers and hidden costs of ?go-peds? after receiving reports of youngsters riding them in West Devon.
Officers said it was important that people were aware anything with a small petrol engine required insurance.
A go-ped is like a tiny motorbike which you stand on like a scooter ? a court case in 2000 it made it clear that go-peds were ?mechanically propelled vehicles? and as such would need the same insurance.
Crime reduction sergeant Dave Anning said: ?I suspect people are buying them over the internet not realising they will be liable.
?From a police perspective we consider these quite dangerous as riders are hard to see and often young with little road sense.?
