POLICE acted on information given to them by community members to seize thousands of pounds worth of cannabis being grown in Okehampton.

On Monday, September 16, PC Evans, PC Brenchley and PC Wilson from the Okehampton Neighbourhood Team acted on information that there was an active plot of cannabis growing in an outdoor site but did not know the exact location.

Based on the description of the location, the officers searched several likely areas before finding the site.

It was well hidden and in an area unlikely to be accidentally discovered.

A clearing in a wooded area, that could only be reached on foot, had been given over to the growing of some high quality cannabis plants that had clearly been well cared for. There was also evidence that someone had stayed there occasionally.

Police removed budding cannabis of an estimated value of £3,000.

Police said they are always happy to act on information from the public, and will always heavily rely on those willing to help them in the fight against drugs in the town.

All information will be taken in the strictest of confidence and anyone who can help can contact [email protected]">[email protected] or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
