TAVISTOCK Flower Show this week drew many admiring visitors — but the event was marred by the disappearance of one of its cups.

The Duke of Bedford Perpetual Cup — which is awarded to the exhibitor obtaining the second highest number of points in the flower, vegetable and fruit classes — was presented to the club by the seventh Duke of Bedford.

Show secretary Tom Percival said he was 'dismayed' at the loss. The cup was thought to have been taken from the display stand between 1.15pm and 7pm on Monday when the show was open to the public. In all, the stand held 65 trophies.

The cup is of moderate size and has the name engraved on it. Tavistock police are asking for any information to be passed to them, quoting crime number JT01680, at the station or on 08705 777444.
